UPDATE: I am no longer a member of PPC-Coach.com, as I was banned for making Affiliit.com … apparently the owner (Will aka ppc-coach) does not like competition, although that’s not what this site was built for.
1. PPC-Coach is very limited…strictly PPC, and a lot of outdated methods and material.
2. Affiliit.com teaches INTERNET MARKETING, using SEO, PPC, PPV (later in the course), Article Marketing, List Building, etc., etc… there’s NO competition here. None at all.
So, you won’t see me on that site ever again. You can read this post here for more details, if you’d like.

Alright, I’ve decided to do a simple tutorial on how I create polls using a simple system I’ve developed that keeps me from losing focus, and allows me to create polls within 30 minutes, regardless of size.
If you’re a member of PPC Coach, you’ll understand this post… if not: you may not have a clue.
WARNING: This system I’ve come up with uses several paid tools. They will be listed, but I wanted to give you a warning. I will try my best to come up with alternatives (free), but I can’t promise the same results.
Anyone that has done polls already knows that there’s a few tools available for quick research. BuzzDash.com is a great resource, but Yahoo! Buzz is another, as well as Google Hot Trends.
So, what I like to do first is come up with an idea. I use BuzzDash.com and Yahoo! Buzz to start my research with. What am I looking for? I want to see what’s hot, what looks like something people are interested in…
But my MAIN goal is to find something that I know will either make someone extremely angry, or extremely happy…or somewhere in between. Either way, I want the person to CLICK THE AD, go to the Poll and SUBMIT THEIR VOTE — and when they’re done, I want them to PUT IN THEIR INFORMATION. Right? Of course.
So what we’re looking for is something that everyone knows about… for instance: Chris Brown and Rihanna.
Yes, I know…everyone has tried this poll. Everyone claims they didn’t make money with this poll.
Guess what? Screw their results! I have made money with a Chris Brown and Rihanna poll because I made people angry with the Ad and the Poll title. I made Rihanna fans angry, and Chris Brown fans hopeful.
I showed a picture of Rihanna’s face and asked a simple question “Is Chris Brown Really Guilty Of Beating Rihanna?”
That question would piss off a lot of people and practically FORCE them to want to give their opinions. But some people claim that putting a subtitle such as “win a $250 gift card for voting” is necessary. Personally, I don’t know if this is true, because *I* have not tested this.
As the late Corey Rudl said: “Test everything, ASSume Nothing.”
Do I use this method? Sure, because the majority of people say it works, so I’ve kept it that way. If and when I decide to test it without the subtitle being that way, I will. But, for now I will keep it…
So, for the subtitle, I keep it as “Vote now and enter to win a [offer]” … simple as that.
I ALWAYS find a GOOD picture that will make the headline stand out. Using a picture of Rihanna’s bruised face will paint the picture perfectly. So will showing Joaquin Pheonix’s crazy beard for a “Did Joaquin Phoenix Hit Rock Bottom?” type poll.
I’ve tested with Buttons above the picture and below. For *ME*, I’ve noticed that buttons above work best.
Always test colors. Try several different colors and see what works best for THAT poll.
“Test everything, ASSume NOTHING.” – Corey Rudl
Alright, now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, let’s explain the system:
Poll Idea Research -> Keyword Research -> pollfactory -> (<- tracking ->) -> SpeedPPC -> Google Adwords Editor -> LAUNCH! (details below)
1. Poll Idea Research: I always start off with trying to find out a good topic. I use BuzzDash.com, Yahoo! Buzz and Google Trends to start my research off. Remember — we’re looking for an idea of what kind of Poll to come up with. Don’t over think this, because we need to get 5-10 polls out each and every day, right? Right.
Spend about 5-10 minutes doing this… but no more than that. You may even already have several ideas in your head. Write them down and see if there’s anything that says they’re not worth it.
2. Keyword Research: I use Keyword Elite for this part. I use it because it’s automatic and it comes up with plenty of keywords for me without much effort. You WILL need to do a CAPTCHA image before you can minimize the program, though! Put in a keyword, wait for the CAPTCHA, and then minimize it.
TIP: ONLY USE GOOGLE AND Yahoo for your Search Engines. This way, you’ll get MUCH better keyword results. The other engines spit out some really stupid keywords.
You can try this with the Google Keyword Tool, but I cannot say how much extra time it will add, exactly. I do know that it will be much longer than Keyword Elite … that’s for sure.
3. poll factory: Here comes the fun part! Setting up Polls with poll factory is AWESOME. I love this program. I won’t get into details about how to use it (there’s plenty of documentation, and it’s VERY easy to use), but I will explain how to quickly use it in this system.
I setup the poll how I need it, with RSS and I even throw in a new news article in the Content part – but I lower (using the Enter button
the content to keep it below the fold after the poll is finished.
USING Prosper 202: If you’re using prosper202/Tracking202, use this tutorial to explain how easy it is to setup T202 with pollfactory. It’s a great tutorial!
I usually add in my JavaScript and Offer link before grabbing the output, IF I use T202… but, personally, I tend to SKIP the tracking right off the bat. Why? It’s too demanding of my time right now. If I see potential – I will come back and insert tracking later.
HLOLA: I personally use HLOLA and T202 both. HLOLA is quicker to setup than T202 (free version), so I prefer IT over T202 for polls.
PPC Coach Tracker: This is another quick way for tracking, if you’re a member of this site
4. SpeedPPC: OK, here’s another paid tool I like to use. Why? Well, because it drives the time spent on campaigns down to a SERIOUS minimum. You can skip this part and do things with the PPC Coach content generator tools if you want!
So, you have a choice of either. Some of you may already own this tool, so this is for you.
If you’re using tracking – you need to throw your tracking URL into the URL Template field. For P202, you need to change kw={keyword} to kw={seed} … if you use HLOLA, do the same.
In HLOLA, I also like to change the hg= to hg={adgroup} and hn= to hn=content … this way you get more tracking potential. With PPC Coach’s Tracker, you should get the point by now!
YOU HAVE to do this part with SpeedPPC, though.
SpeedPPC will seriously make this part so much easier, and I will always HIGHLY suggest this tool. It’s an awesome time-saver. It’s what takes this system from a long, stressful task, to a quick and easy and FUN task.
Grab the output for the Keywords and Text ads and now open up Google Adwords Editor
5. Google Adwords Editor: This is the final part of the system. It’s EXTREMELY simple to use, too. Don’t let the size of this software scare you!
From SpeedPPC or PPC Coach’s Content Generator tool: Grab the Keyword List and go into AE (Google Adwords Editor) and go to DATA > KEYWORDS > ADD/UPDATE MULTIPLE KEYWORDS … when the box opens up, make sure it shows the Radio Button is on the “My Keyword Information..” blah blah. You’ll see it!
Now, put in those Keywords into that box and click NEXT. Finish that up and go back into SpeedPPC or PPCC Content Generator tool and get the TEXT ADS out of the lower box.
Now, you go into AE and go to DATA > TEXT ADS > ADD/UPDATE MULTIPLE TEXT ADS
It’s the same thing as before.
When you’re done with that part, it’s time to click on THAT CAMPAIGN (make sure you’re inside of the CURRENT campaign!) and click the AD GROUPS tab. When the Ad groups all come up as a list, right click > SELECT ALL. Now you want to put down your bids and all of that. I usually start out from 20-25 cents and slowly bid down during the day.
When you’re done with the ad groups, go and set your daily budget and all of that in the campaign tab. MAKE SURE you set the Search Network to NONE!
When you’re done with all of that stuff, click on the POST CHANGES button, then when the Box comes up – click on the campaign you want to post changes for and you’re done!
Poll Idea Research -> Keyword Research -> pollfactory -> (<- tracking ->) -> SpeedPPC -> Google Adwords Editor -> LAUNCH!
All that’s left is slowly bringing your bids down throughout the day!
Hope this helps!
TIP: Use WordPress on the domain, and add caffeinated content to auto-add content for you. DON’T over do it! 1 addition per day is fine… don’t do 20 posts a day, or you WILL get slapped. You should also add a few blog posts of your own throughout the week. This shows that your site is real (to Google) and that you’re not just using it for Poll-Spam

Nice tutorial. You should post this on PPC-coach as well since it would help some of the newbies out.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the reply!
I thought about it, but I really needed something new to post on my blog, and I figured I could kill two birds with one stone.
I post all kinds of stuff in there, and rarely get the chance to post anything worthwhile on my blog, as of late.

Thanks, Ric!
The tools aren’t 100% necessary, but they DO make things MUCH faster!

Hey Clint,
Nice post… got redirected from your sig in PPC-Coach.
Ok this has been bugging me for awhile. And please correct me if I assume something that is not.
Using SpeedPPC (I have a very similar program) you can only do one keyword per adgroup.
I was under the impression that Google doesn’t like one keyword per adgroup on the Content Network… obviously you’ve found different.
Can you comment on that for me because it would make tracking ten million times easier to have one keyword per adgroup as opposed to 50 keywords per adgroup.
I appreciate it!
Dan

Hey Dan,
I honestly have never heard anything bad about using 1 keyword per adgroup on the Content Network. I’ve been doing it that way because several pro’s have recommended it, and it’s VERY easy for tracking.
To be honest, it seems much easier to get clicks down closer to 1 cent, too.
^ NOT sure if that has anything to do with it, but I was never able to get it down that close before I started doing 1 per adgroup.
So, I would do it if I were you. I’d love to see who says otherwise, as I’ve never heard anyone say this before — but maybe I’m missing something?
My accounts don’t say otherwise, though

Hey Thanks Clint…
Yeah the numbers don’t lie! and I like what your numbers are saying.
I am going to do this and see what damage I can do.
I let you know in the PPC Coach forum how things go. Thanks.

You’re right! The numbers don’t lie!
I should make a note that the first time you guys try this system, it will take more than 30 minutes, just because it’s a BRAND NEW system to you.
But, by your 3rd poll, you’ll be rockin’ them out within 20-30 minutes, tops!

Hey Clint,
Nice post. You really should post it on the forum as well. Not everyone would clickthrough your sig…

Hey Alex,
Thanks for the comment!
Actually, I’ve stated the reason that I chose not to post it on the forum. Although I would like to, I really don’t want to duplicate the content, as it’s something that’s needed for this site.
I enjoy writing and helping others, so you’ll always find me helping somebody on the forums. But, in this case, I wanted this on my site as I REALLY needed new content here.
Thanks bud!

Yea, I know the feeling about needing content.
But, it wouldn’t be a case of duplicate content since the forum is private and not being indexed…
*damn your captcha is annoying! do you really get so much spam to use it?? do you have akismet enabled? It regularly blocks bot comments for me..

Clint Lenard reply on March 3rd, 2009:
I’ve got akismet enabled and I still need CAPTCHA, as they keep slipping by here and there… I just got too tired of deleting comments and decided on this, for now.
I may disable it for a few weeks and see how it goes, though.

quick question…. Does SpeedPPC and coach’s content generator do the same thing? If not what’s the difference?
Reply
Clint Lenard reply on March 4th, 2009:
Hey Dave,
Personally, I would take SpeedPPC over Coach’s tool any day of the week (as of now) because you have so many more opportunities with it, IMO.
For example, with SpeedPPC, I can save all of my campaigns, in case I need to make a small change later…or a big change. Easy stuff. Simply make the change and update output.
Another feature that’s awesome is the fact that you can test out as many headlines or body copy as you want and mix and match in the Advanced ad section.
Another feature is the Domain feature, which allows you to quickly create an entire campaign based on Domain mixes. Fun stuff and very valuable
Then there’s the Keyword Expansion lists that give you the chance to create tons of more lists (single, dual), easy export in different ways, etc, etc.
Don’t get me wrong — Coach’s tool is awesome compared to most… but there’s a few things it can’t do, which is where SpeedPPC comes in VERY handy.
When you get into other things, you’ll see how well this software works, too.

Hey Clint,
Great post, and very helpful. Can you talk a little about your process for offer selection with respect to these polls? I feel I’m doing almost exactly what you’re suggesting, getting some sales, but not profitable on any yet, and wondering if the offer selection is the one part of the process I’m not devoting enough thought to.
How do you do it, and what’s your process there?
Marc

Clint Lenard reply on March 7th, 2009:
Hey Marc,
That’s a little difficult to nail, to be honest. Anyone can get better at it if they’re brand new, but the “basics” of it are simply thinking in terms of Basic Demographics.
Who is the audience you’re targeting? Young Men? If so, then you want to find offers with Electronics.
Young Women? Generally, I target Gift Cards for more “broad” Polls that are targeted towards females.
I apologize if this doesn’t make sense… I’m extremely tired as I type this.
Basically, if nothing is working — I have a saying: Gift Cards are the Cure-all. Not sure what to hit them with? Try rotating a gift card with another offer and see which one prevails.
The goal is to not be TOO broad to where you can’t “complete” the poll, itself.
Hope that helps!

Can you direct me to a post that lists which topics work best? I’ve heard some say that celebrity polls suck, and others say the same about political polls.
Do you have an opinion about this?
Reply
Clint Lenard reply on June 30th, 2009:
John,
The only way to figure this out is by testing it out yourself. You can’t rely on the “opinions” of others to help you make money online. In the end, those are strictly opinions, and not fact.
People told me there was no way I’d make money with Political Polls and Celebrity Polls, and I proved them wrong, big time.
Test everything, assume nothing.
