I heard about this earlier, but I forgot to mention it in a post for anybody looking to take advantage of this new system! ;-)

MySpace just opened the doors to their new Advertising Network, which should be pretty damn good for the first few weeks, or months, as far as earning a pretty penny.

Google Quality Score Update!

Category: google | 4 Comments

I just read an email about Google’s new Quality Score updated that will take effect in the next few days.

Here’s what the email states, in case you are not subscribed to the AdWords Blog:

Last month, we posted about upcoming Quality Score improvements — and today, we’re following up to notify you that these changes will take effect in all advertisers’ accounts over the next few days. In addition, we’d like to answer a number of the more common questions we’ve recently heard from our advertisers.

To briefly summarize our earlier post, we have incorporated three main improvements to Quality Score:

  • Quality Score is now more accurate — because it is calculated at the time of each search query

  • Keywords are no longer marked ‘inactive for search‘ — all keywords are active because they are evaluated for every relevant query

  • ‘First page bid estimates’ replace ‘minimum bids’ in your account — providing a more actionable and useful metric to advertisers

Below are answers to the most common questions we’ve heard, in each of these three areas:

Quality Score

Many advertisers wanted to know specifically how this launch affects the way we calculate Quality Score.

We will still consider your account’s history, which consists of the clickthrough rate (CTR) of all the ads and keywords in your account. We will also consider your landing page quality. Although your overall Quality Score is evaluated at the time of each query, landing page quality is evaluated less frequently.

Inactive for Search Status

We received three main types of questions about Inactive for Search Status. You’ve asked why we were doing this, how this would affect your traffic levels, and how this would affect the number of ads shown.

Through all our Ads Quality changes, our goal is to improve the search experience by showing only the highest quality, most relevant ads — and this change further enables us to meet this goal. By making all keywords active we will be able to evaluate keywords for any query where they may be relevant. Previously, keywords that were marked ‘inactive for search’ would never show ads on Google.com, even if they would have been a high quality match for certain queries.

Most keywords that are ‘inactive for search’ today will continue to accrue very few (or no) impressions due to their low Quality Score. For some currently inactive keywords, however, we may find that they perform very well for certain queries or in certain circumstances — in which case, these keywords may begin to receive impressions.

Stated another way, this change does not mean that that every ad will be shown or that every query will show ads.

First Page Bid Estimates

Finally, for first page bid estimates, many of you were interested in learning how these would compare to your old minimum bids.

For queries without many advertisers competing for placement, the first page bid estimate should be relatively close to your existing minimum bid. However, queries with a high level of advertiser competition may have significantly higher first page bid estimates, because you’ll likely need to bid above the old minimum bid to rank higher than your competition and show on the first page. Remember that you can bid less than your first page bid estimate and still show on subsequent pages — as long as your keyword is relevant to our users.

Advertisers familiar with the competitive landscape for their keywords may indeed notice that the first page bid estimates provided are in line with the CPCs that they had been bidding to appear on the first page prior to the release of these Quality Score improvements, although this is not a given.

We hope this information helps answer your questions. And, as you become acclimated to these changes, we hope you will keep in mind their underlying purpose. These improvements are part of a continuing effort to deliver relevant ads to our users, and also to provide you with more control over your bidding and more insight into the quality of your ads and keywords.

Start Your Day Off With Research

I tend to get my day started off with checking emails, clicking a link, getting involved in other links and after about 2 hours later, I realize that I’ve gotten nothing done. Seriously, it’s a bad habit.

So, today I figured I would try a new trick… each morning I will start my day off by opening up a new window in Firefox and every Research Tool I need will open up…

Google Trends, Site Exporer (Yahoo), NicheBot, Compete, Yahoo! Buzz, Microsoft XRank, etc, etc. I have about 12 pages open up right away.

In case you don’t know how to do this – you can create multiple home pages in Firefox by adding Pipes | between each URL.

Like this:

http://site.com | http://www.anothersite.com | http://www.somesite.net/go/there/now/ |

Just go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > (MAIN) > Homepage

http://www.compete.com | http://trends.google.com | https://siteexplorer.search.Yahoo.com |

Add as many as you want and it SHOULD (theoretically) help you become a little more productive, if not more motivated.

(UPDATE) I noticed that the URL’s I’ve added are showing up as like 8 spaces from the Pipes… just add ONE spaceĀ  (if any) to help out your eyes… I didn’t add that much space, it was Wordpress. ;-)

Stomping The Search Engines 2 Review

Category: reviews | Leave a Comment

I was supposed to have this posted up a few days ago, but I’ve had little time to get it going…

Originally, I was going to have a very in-depth review, but since I’m too busy – I’ll keep it brief.

Plus, they’re apparently giving it away (from what I just read on another blog, which reminded me to post this)?

www.GoStomping.com

I got my review copy of Stomping The Search Engines 2 last Friday, but didn’t get to REALLY check everything out until Saturday afternoon. Man, this stuff is crazy…

I’m a big fan of Dan Thies. The guy is brilliant. But, ALL of these guys at Stompernet are like scientific freaks or something?

Honestly, when I was going through the DVD – I thought “crap… this is going to be entirely over my head”. But, thankfully, it actually wasn’t.

All of my Internet Marketing career has been spent on learning about traffic. SEO has been the one area in which I’ve spent (by far) the most time learning. I have read so much stuff and watched so many videos – I got “certified” without even taking any practice tests or even studying.

But, I was never REALLY an expert, nor have I ever claimed to be (unlike a certain individual has claimed I did…forum clowns always bring the circus to you ;-) .

I have always felt like there was so much more to learn… I was hungry for more information, and after going through Stomping The Search Engines 2 — I can honestly say that I am “full” now.

The DVD is simply amazing. No joke.

Then there’s The Net Effect, which is much like Search MarketingĀ  Standard, but seems to be more thorough. I was definitely surprised by the information they gave away in this journal.

But… the DVD is what was mind blowing.

If I didn’t recommend it – I most certainly would NOT be doing so.

I HIGHLY recommend this DVD, if you can get it! SEO should be the backbone of ANY internet Business.

www.GoStomping.com has information on it.

UPDATE: They canceled today’s launch and moved it to TOMORROW (Thursday), September 4th. Apparently they had issues with their fulfillment process…

Also, Stomping The Search Engines 2 IS FREE!

Owner Of Digital Point Being Sued

Category: My Life | 5 Comments

OK, Nothing NEW here… I think everyone and their mom has heard about his by now – BUT, I couldn’t resist this one…

Someone had commented on his Birthday thread about

“May be we should order a b’day cake from eBay.

Happy birthday shawn!”

Yes, it WILL be stuffed with cookies.

In case you haven’t heard the entire story, Shawn’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

I think Nicky Cakes summed it up pretty nicely, actually.

Irony? Yes, for all of you DP members – it IS ironic…

Google Chrome Is Available For Download

Google’s new Web Browser is now available for download.

Apparently it uses code from Firefox and Safari – and it’s actually faster than Firefox. I’ve been reading about it, and am glad it’s finally here!

If Only It Were That Easy…

Category: My Life | 2 Comments

Have you ever had someone tell you that they wanted to make more money, or even extra money, and they wanted you to teach them? Then… when you were ready to teach them – they had excuses for why they couldn’t learn at that time? No time to learn – but boy did they want to make that money!

Why are so many people like this? I don’t get it… I know several people who have absolutely NOTHING ELSE to do BUT to learn… no jobs, no nothing… yet, they’ve got more excuses than anyone. Irony? No.

I give up on trying to help people out on my own time. I will now refer everyone to my blog.

Recently I had a great idea for someone to make money – and I even offered to help them get to the level… they acted really excited too. But, it’s been a while since I’ve heard back from them. Think I don’t know what’s coming? You bet… a great excuse.

It’s sad that some people will actually spend more time thinking of excuses for failure than they spend trying to succeed. Sad story…

But, that leaves more opportunities to those who have the desire to make money!
