Business “Failures”

Category: My Life | Leave a Comment

I find it quite interesting how many people use that phrase: “Business Failures”. You read about it and hear others speaking about it constantly… “Most Small Business Fail in the first 5 years”. How did they fail?

Failure is a huge word. One site even lists the definition of Failure as such:

lack of success”

How can you measure success of another? It’s not as easy as it sounds… as a matter of fact – it’s usually impossible. I’ve heard people make claims of how some Businesses “FAIL” after 10 years in practice. How is this Failure? Who was it that measured that Business’ Success?

Failure, in my opinion, is not trying… while there are plenty of Business owners who fail to plan their Business (i.e. Business Plan or Marketing plan…or even an Executive Summary) and the future of such – most owners feel successful if they’ve proven the critics wrong when they get their first customer. Then comes the second, third, fourth and so on. So if a Business owner creates a Business just to get out of working for a Company but has no clue as to what he’s (or she) getting into  – then THAT can lead to failure. But for those who go out, study and learn and even work for another company to build the specific Skill-set needed to accomplish their Goals for Business…that, my friend, is success when that first dollar is created.

Success is in the mind of the beholder. The person who created the goals they require themselves to accomplish are the truly successful Business people. Of course Revenue can be a major goal…but you might read that line again? “can be”. What if the Business is non-profit? How do you measure their success?

Since most businesses “fail” in the first [enter latest number here] year(s), why should those Business Owners feel unsuccessful? What if their ultimate goals were to produce $100,000 in 2 years? How would you measure their success if they “failed” in 3 years but produced $500,000 in those 3 years?

Success is what you wish for… just plan ahead properly and you can accomplish anything in Business.

Failure never happens to those who go out and try!

This sounds like a great idea, actually. I’m surprised that a Major chain hasn’t already tried something more along these lines?

Kroger, Wal-Mart, Safeway? They’ll be purchasing their new Grocery Systems from HP!

AOL Mail just got cool.

Category: My Life | Leave a Comment

It’s about time! AOL has been a lost cause for quite a while but at least I can give them credit for one thing: Their NEW Mail program.

www.mail.aol.com

They’ve raised the bar on space – just like Gmail has – with 2Gigs worth of space. But, like GMail, they’ve added some very cool AJAX functions that let you delete mail, move mail, etc. VERY easily.

Check it out for yourself! It’s pretty awesome!

Who knows…maybe AOL will become “cool” again?

The Sopranos

Category: My Life | Leave a Comment

Wow…the Series Finale is going to be ULTRA-DRAMATIC! I watched tonights episode and you could just tell the next few (the last two) episodes are going to be EXTREME.

If you missed tonights episode – you better catch the rerun! I have a feeling that True Soprano fans, such as myself, are going to catch one of those “caught up in television” bugs after next weeks episode. I hate hearing about people taking T.V. too seriously but this next episode is going to be insane and will surely piss plenty of fans off, in a good way for the producers, of course.

Backup your computer!

Category: My Life | Leave a Comment

So I borrowed my dads laptop to burn some CD’s…my laptop has a latency problem lately…and everything was working fine and then BAM! The thing shuts off. So I click on the Power button and……..crap. There’s all kinds of problems happening. Of course this would happen while I had borrowed it, right? Haha. Luckily it was pretty new and there was nothing of extreme importance that couldn’t be replaced. Pretty much only Firefox, some CAD programs and a few other easy to get, easy to install prog’s.

But…if only he had kept backups – this wouldn’t have happened the way it did. :(

All good things must come to an end

All these shows with season finales seem to be getting canceled. George Lopez, for one.

What a b!tch of an ABC executive that must have been, to cancel that show! That’s the absolute WORST channel on TV these days with only 3 good shows:

George Lopez, Lost and According to Jim… they canceled the Freddy show so that takes 1 away from this year alone.

Ahhhhh I remember when ABC was good… back when Fred Savage was a popular name. Or “Tim the tool man Taylor” ;-)

Scrubs had its Season Finale tonight. It was pretty damn good, as expected. Last I heard/read – Zach Braff was still saying he didn’t know if there would be a next season? Here’s to “hoping so”!

I used to never watch Television but…there’s just too many great shows out lately. Most seem to be on NBC and CBS, though. Although at least one CBS show is gone … king of queens :(
