I find it quite interesting how many people use that phrase: “Business Failures”. You read about it and hear others speaking about it constantly… “Most Small Business Fail in the first 5 years”. How did they fail?
Failure is a huge word. One site even lists the definition of Failure as such:
“lack of success”
How can you measure success of another? It’s not as easy as it sounds… as a matter of fact - it’s usually impossible. I’ve heard people make claims of how some Businesses “FAIL” after 10 years in practice. How is this Failure? Who was it that measured that Business’ Success?
Failure, in my opinion, is not trying… while there are plenty of Business owners who fail to plan their Business (i.e. Business Plan or Marketing plan…or even an Executive Summary) and the future of such - most owners feel successful if they’ve proven the critics wrong when they get their first customer. Then comes the second, third, fourth and so on. So if a Business owner creates a Business just to get out of working for a Company but has no clue as to what he’s (or she) getting into - then THAT can lead to failure. But for those who go out, study and learn and even work for another company to build the specific Skill-set needed to accomplish their Goals for Business…that, my friend, is success when that first dollar is created.
Success is in the mind of the beholder. The person who created the goals they require themselves to accomplish are the truly successful Business people. Of course Revenue can be a major goal…but you might read that line again? “can be”. What if the Business is non-profit? How do you measure their success?
Since most businesses “fail” in the first [enter latest number here] year(s), why should those Business Owners feel unsuccessful? What if their ultimate goals were to produce $100,000 in 2 years? How would you measure their success if they “failed” in 3 years but produced $500,000 in those 3 years?
Success is what you wish for… just plan ahead properly and you can accomplish anything in Business.
Failure never happens to those who go out and try!
