There’s been alot of speculation over MySpace’s “facts” and ‘figures’ since the buyout in late 2005 but now we’ve got another blogger who wants to Debunk the Myth of Myspace.com’s 100 Million users.
I, for one, agree completely with the debunking. I’ve always stated “100 Million Accounts” rather than users when speaking about MySpace.com
I’ve never believed that a site can have “active members” as “total members” because the fact is: Not everybody is going to love your product. People will leave even if they do. And last but not least - people love hype… they just want to sign up for sites to see what the big hype is about.
I’ve got approximately 3 accounts with MySpace, currently. I use one for my Music, one for my personal stuff (old and rarely log in) and one for Marketing purposes.
I can guarantee you that MySpace doesn’t always delete accounts when they’re being used for spam because I know plenty who have had their accounts for LONG time. I also know of the Bulletin spammers who people seem to add and delete quickly off their friends lists.
The fact is - these 133,000,000 + accounts ARE NOT legit. I can concur that MySpace deletes accounts once in a while because when me and a friend were testing the numbers in the past we noticed that the total count went down 20,000 Users within 2 minutes, up 30,000+ and back down approx. 5,000 or so.
Either way, MySpace has a ton of users and only continues to grow in ‘numbers’ in both users and accounts. Financially we’ve seen them grow as well via Google. ![]()
